For the second year in a row, "Project Runway All Stars" winner, and Dining Out For Life spokesperson, Mondo Guerra has been busy starting a movement on social media for World AIDS Day to raise HIV awareness.
This time around, the designer has designed a special filter Facebook users can implement on their profile picture. WIth the filter, Guerra hopes to start a new conversation around HIV/AIDS.
The filter is available for download at Project I Design, a national HIV educational campaign sponsored by Merck that encourages HIV-positive people to have open and honest discussions with their doctors regarding treatment.
Guerra, who revealed he was HIV-positive on “Project Runway” Season 8, jumpstarted a nationwide conversation about what it’s like living with HIV. In tandem with his new logo design, the designer will also reveal a 360-degree video on World AIDS Day to emphasize the power of Pozitivity while giving hope and inspiration to those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.
“With these designs, I hope to demonstrate the idea that reality is a fluid concept,” Guerra said in a statement. “What we perceive as real is often defined by preconceived notions, attitudes and other influences. When I was first diagnosed with HIV, I could have chosen to see my status as devastating– and respond accordingly. Instead, I made a conscious choice to live with HIV in ways that challenge and inspire me both as an artist and as an advocate.”
As an HIV-positive artist, Guerra says the 360-degree feature, supported through marketing agency 15 Minutes inc., symbolizes the choices each of us have in how we view and respond to life’s circumstances. “Living with HIV and developing a long-term wellness plan with my doctors has changed my perceptions on life,” he said. “I now choose to live each and everyday with a positive spirit, and I’m positive that I am better for it. That’s the power of Pozitivity that I hope to share.”
