Brown, the new president of the World Congress of Families (WCF) and leader of the National Organizer for Marriage (NOM), made the announcement on International Human Rights Day

The Southern Poverty Law Center recognizes WCF and NOM as anti-LGBTQ hate groups.

“I want to introduce you to a new organization that will take the global fight to preserve and protect marriage to a whole new level, allowing NOM to be able to focus fully on the continuing fight here at home,” Brown wrote. “IOF is assembling a coalition of allies to take the worldwide lead in fighting for marriage, religious liberty, parental rights, the truth of gender and other issues central to the pro-family movement.”

Since 2007, NOM has tried – and failed—to block the national momentum for marriage equality. After losing the fight at nearly every turn, NOM has been  taking its mission across the ocean. Since 2012, Brown has publicly supported anti-LGBTQ movements in France, Russia, Australia, Spain, Mexico, Kenya and Trinidad and Tobago, among others.

IOF’s first project, is based in South Africa. The so-called “Cape Town Declaration” promotes “the dignity of marriage as the conjugal bond of man and woman.”

"These exporters of hate are in a desperate search to find any foothold for their message and mission of discrimination," said Jean Freedberg, Deputy Director of HRC Global. "No new organization can turn the tide and stop the momentum towards basic dignity and human rights for LGBTQ people around the world, but this new group reinforces the need for all of us to remain vigilant in the face of emboldened hate. IOF will soon find itself in the ash heap of history alongside NOM."

Brown is one of many Americans taking the mission of anti-LGBTQ hate and bigotry abroad.
