According to UNAIDS, HIV-related stigma and discrimination are among
the top barriers to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
Fortunately, people living with HIV in the United States are protected
by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), which “prohibits
discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with
disabilities in employment, state and local government services, public
accommodations, commercial facilities and transportation.”
Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to prove that discrimination has
taken place. POZ recently asked you about your experiences with
HIV-related discrimination. Here are your responses.
