In our journey here on earth sometimes we experience a complete loss of hope;
this is what we call despair. For the Christian we have the blessed
hope which is that day when Jesus will come to redeem us and take us to heaven
for eternity. Until that day we need to remember to focus on the right
things, as Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:8. He reminds us that
despair will be replaced with peace
when we think on the right things. Sometimes our despair is because we
forget how important it is to spend time building others up, rather than
concentrating so much on ourselves. When we think on the things that
are good and do for others, we will have hope and true joy
and peace that passes our human understanding. We have no time for
despair when we are busy “doing”. Here are twenty-one quotes that I hope
will lift you out of your time of despair.
Revelation 21:4 He
will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the
former things have passed away.
“If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.” – C.S. Lewis
“Great thoughts of your sin alone will drive you to despair; but great thoughts of Christ will pilot you into the haven of peace.” – Charles Spurgeon
“The greatest faith is born in the hour of despair. When we can see no hope and no way out, then faith rises and brings the victory.” – Lee Robertson
“God’s grace is painted on the canvas of despair.” – T. D. Jakes
“Love is hope when reason despairs.” – Jack Hyles
Other Famous Quotes
“We must never despair; our situation has been compromising before, and it has changed for the better; so I trust it will again. If difficulties arise, we must put forth new exertion and proportion our efforts to the exigencies of the times.” – George Washington
“It is impossible for that man to despair who remembers that his Helper is omnipotent.” – Jeremy Taylor
“Now, God be praised, that to believing souls gives light in darkness, comfort in despair.” – William Shakespeare
“In the time of darkest defeat, victory may be nearest.” – Williams McKinley
“What we call despair is often only the painful eagerness of unfed hope.” – George Eliot
“One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.” – Lucille Ball
Bible Quotes:
We Fall Down and We Get Back Up
Job 24:21-23 They
wrong the barren, childless woman, and do no good to the widow. Yet God
prolongs the life of the mighty by his power; they rise up when they
despair of life. He gives them security, and they are supported, and his
eyes are upon their way
2 Corinthians 4:7-10 But
we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing
power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but
not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not
forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body
the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in
our bodies.
Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Jesus Delivered Us Once, He Will Do it Again
Romans 8:23-25 And
not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the
Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the
redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that
is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for
what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
2 Corinthians 1:10 He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.
Come To Jesus; He Is Our Hope and Comfort
John 5:24 Truly,
truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me
has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from
death to life. (Jesus’ words)
John 16:20-22 Truly,
truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will
rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. When
a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but
when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish,
for joy that a human being has been born into the world. So also you
have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice,
and no one will take your joy from you. (Jesus’ words)
Romans 15:13 May the
God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by
the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Hebrews 4:15-16 For
we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our
weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet
without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of
grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Revelation 21:4 He
will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the
former things have passed away.
