Earlier this week, news emerged that one of the
president-elect’s possible Supreme Court choices believed consensual gay
sex in the privacy of the home should be punishable with jail time.
Yes, that’s right, while serving as Alabama’s Attorney
General in 2003, William H Pryor Jr wrote a legal brief in defence of a
Texan law which criminalised consensual gay sex behind closed doors.
Fortunately that particular law was struck down by the Supreme Court…
But that doesn’t mean he changed his mind on the subject.
He compared men having sex with men to “polygamy, incest,
paedophilia, prostitution, and adultery” and commented that Alabama’s
judicial system had “never recognised a fundamental right to engage in
sexual activity outside of monogamous heterosexual marriage, let alone
to engage in homosexual sodomy”.
“Homosexual sodomy has not historically been recognised in
this country as a right; to the contrary, it has historically been
recognised as a wrong. It is not a fundamental right,” he wrote.
Fortunately, when things get scary, the internet steps up – like a cozy comfort blanket.
Enter, Florida native Logan Moreno, who tweeted a reply to the justice who might one day influence constitutional law.
Want to make it illegal for gay and bisexual men to have sex in their homes? “Then we’ll fuck outside bitch!” he wrote.
Logan told Buzzfeed news
that some of the reactions to his tweet, which has since been shared
thousands of times, have ranged from incredulous to thirsty.
“It’s extremely interesting,” he told the site. “I’ve found it very amusing.”
“I would like to promote the fact that minorities in America
are scared and that everyone needs to feel safe within their home,” he
added.
“When I wrote the tweet I was very emotional and this
election has taken quite the toll on my community so if you’ll excuse
the language you’ll see that it was written in good faith if not the
most polite execution.”
“Everyone should just try and spread as much love and safety as possible.”
And because we put Salt-N-Pepa in your head at the beginning of this article… Hit the music.
