As we kick
off the New Year, there are two major events on everyone’s minds.
President-Elect Donald Trump takes office later this month, and some of
the best talent of our time competes for Oscar glory next month.
W Magazine used their latest issue
to promote a sense of unity during these uncertain times. While the
election steadily tore our country apart, the editors were getting 12 of
today’s biggest actors for The Movie Issue. Photographer Craig McDean
captured these performers in intimate poses, tenderly embracing each
other as couples with no regard to age, race or gender.
One cover shows Moonlight star Mahershala Ali
hugging Nicole Kidman; another features Adam Driver with his arms
wrapped around Viggo Mortensen; Ruth Negga and Natalie Portman—two
amazing actresses who portrayed powerful women this year—lean in as if
to kiss.
As the country remains divided on the most detrimental
issues, it’s important we use all willing platforms to deliver powerful
messages, and W proves that the most potent protest comes in the form of love.
