Julia Roberts is asking for a rather unique birthday present from her fans but it’s for a very good cause.

The 48-year-old ‘Pretty Woman’ actress was at the GLSEN’s Respect Awards held at Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles on Friday.

She was there to present the Visionary Award to Jess Cagle, the editorial director of Time Inc.’s Style & Entertainment Group.

‘It is my pleasure every year to support GLSEN,’ said Roberts. ‘I love this night. I told the kids backstage… that this is like my third favorite night of the year—and one and two, but don’t tell anyone.’

‘But one of the three nights might be my birthday, which is next Friday,’ the award-winning actress continued. ‘If you wake up next Friday and think, what should I get Julia for her birthday then donate to GLSEN. I’m going to be 49, so a $49-donation would be great. Thank you.’

GLSEN, short-form for the ‘Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network,’ is an organization in the U.S. that seeks to tackle issues that youths face in school, such as discrimination, harassment, and bullying based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

The annual GLSEN Awards aims to honor individuals and organisations that help better the lives of LGBTQ youth.
