A lesbian woman was allegedly told to
leave the women’s bathroom by a staff at the Los Angeles Staples Center
after they misgendered her as a man.
Mary Looper was attending her idol Carrie Underwood’s ‘The Storyteller Tour’ concert with her aunt on Wednesday.
When they were in the women’s bathroom, a female security officer had reportedly stood outside her stall, asking for her to prove her gender.
Looper first described the incident on her Facebook account.
‘Usually I don’t want to put my drama out there but ignorant people still exist and it breaks my heart… They literally just tried to escort me out of the women’s restroom at the #staplescenter… Shame on them,’ she wrote.
Looper’s friends who saw her statement expressed anger and shock.
A few of them also headed over to Staples Center’s Facebook page and left their complaints of the distasteful treatment.
Staples Center has yet responded to any of the Facebook comments.

A few of them also headed over to Staples Center’s Facebook page and left their complaints of the distasteful treatment.
‘Absolutely
disappointed about the discrimination my friend experienced last night
while at a Carrie Underwood show,’ one wrote. ‘She is a WOMAN who is
tall, has short hair and boobs but was somehow escorted out of the
women’s restroom by an employee because someone didn’t think she
belonged in the women’s restroom. Waiting outside a bathroom stall while
demanding she prove she is in fact a woman is vile, humiliating and
unacceptable.’
Another wrote: ‘They harass women for using the women’s room, even if they are cisgender, if they aren’t feminine enough. There’s no excuse for this. The security guard in question did far more harm than that poor woman would have even if she was trans. Sprint Center needs to fire this guard and make a public announcement that they will never stand for employees harassing people in bathrooms who are doing nothing wrong again.’
In one of her comments, Looper shared that it’s the not first time someone mistook her as a man, but this encounter still shocked and hurt her:
‘Thanks everyone for the kind words. I get mistaken for a man all the time… It’s no secret,’ she wrote. ‘But, for the fact that their woman employee waited outside my stall for proof that I was a woman, didn’t believe me off my voice… That’s what hurt and had me shocked. I didn’t wanna stir anything up but never ever thought I’d be treated like that in a woman’s restroom in LA, in the Staples Center. Just a bummer it went that far.’
Thankfully, Looper still had a blast at the concert.
‘Great Carrie Underwood concert with my Aunt Debbie,’ she wrote in another post. ‘The other stuff kinda put a damper on the night but Swon Brothers, Easton Corbin, and Carrie Underwood were fantastic.’
