December 1 marks the annual World AIDS Day, but you can participate in an awareness campaign titled “Hands Up for #HIVprevention” right now. Organized by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the campaign asks people around the globe to participate. Here’s how:

Think about what you feel we need to strengthen HIV prevention efforts—things like condoms or rights for women. Then write that word or phrase on the palm of your hand, photograph it and upload it on the UNAIDS Facebook page. You can also create a short video message (no more than 30 seconds).

You can also go to the UNAIDS campaign website and download posters, postcards and images sharable on social media.

UNAIDS is also highlighting a different type of prevention each of the nine weeks leading up to World AIDS Day. You can find stories and info on each. The schedule is as follows:

  • Oct. 3 Condoms
  • Oct. 10 Harm Reduction
  • Oct. 17 VMMC (Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision)
  • Oct. 24 EMTCT (Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission)
  • Oct. 31 PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)
  • Nov. 7 Empowerment of Young Women/Girls
  • Nov. 14 Testing Viral Suppression
  • Nov. 21 Key Populations
  • Nov. 28 Invest in HIV Prevention
  • Dec. 1 World AIDS Day
