Franklin Graham
The head of Christian charity
Samaritan’s Purse has claimed that businesses who are opposed to a
discriminator anti-LGBT law are enabling “sexual predators”.

North Carolina has lost a string of big investment ventures over
Governor Pat McCrory’s decision to sign the contentious HB 2 – which
voided all local ordinances protecting LGBT rights, banned transgender people
from using their preferred bathroom, and permits businesses to discriminate
against LGBT people on the grounds of religious belief.
McCrory continues to insist the rules are “common
sense”, but a string of major employers are boycotting the state over the
attack on the rights of their LGBT employees.
But Franklin Graham, President of
international Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse, insisted opponents of the
laws are helping “sexual predators”.
He wrote on Facebook: “Governor Pat
McCrory, Lt. Governor Dan Forest, and NC state legislators are coming under
extreme pressure about the NC HB2 law which protects our women and children in
bathrooms, dressing rooms, and locker rooms. Our state is being bullied by the
NCAA, the ACC, and some of corporate America who are influenced by LGBT activists.
“Women across this state—do you
really want men in your restrooms? Mothers and grandmothers—do you want men
going into the locker rooms and dressing rooms with your daughters and
granddaughters? What about you, dads and grandfathers?
“Our legislators are being forced to
consider repealing HB2 and you, your children, and your grandchildren will be
at risk to sexual predators and perverts. Is this what you want?
“Pastors and churches across North
Carolina—this isn’t only an important issue of privacy and safety, this is a
moral issue. Sexually perverted people want to come into the most private and
sensitive area that we have as human beings—the restroom.”
In a separate Facebook post, he
defended the right of universities to ban homosexuality among students.
He said: “Talk about intolerance.
The LGBT movement is trying to cram down America’s throat the lie that
homosexuality is okay.
“Now they’re trying to force
Christian colleges to accept the homosexual lifestyle of students—or be on
their ‘shame list’.
“Colleges like Liberty University
and Wheaton College are on the list—good for them.
“Guess what? These schools are
supposed to operate on the truth of God’s Word—that’s what they were founded to
do. They didn’t define sin, God did.
“He created us, loves us, and gives
us instructions on how to live in the Bible. He made it clear that
homosexuality is not His design and is a sin.
“I applaud these Christian schools
and urge them to stay true to the Word of God.”
Repeating disturbing rhetoric often
used by anti-LGBT vigilantes in Russia, he said: “Homosexuals cannot have
children, they can take other people’s children.”
He added: “I very much
appreciate that President Putin is protecting Russian young people against
homosexual propaganda. If only to give them the opportunity to grow up and make
a decision for themselves.”
Despite his slew of extremist
comments, the Christmas Shoebox Appeal run by Graham’s charity enjoys
mainstream support in schools.
